The Bay: A blueprint for recovery

Morecambe Bay, like many coastal communities in the North West of England, has been impacted heavily by loneliness and isolation during the global pandemic.

The Bay is a Nature and Wellbeing Programme, offering people living in Morecambe Bay the opportunity to get outdoors, connect with nature, and take part in a range of activities which cover the 5 Ways to Wellbeing.

It has been set up to tackle the feelings of isolation and loneliness in Morecambe Bay after the global pandemic. Created by partner organisations; The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside, The Eden Project, Cumbria Wildlife Trust and Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, the two-year project will be based in Barrow-in-Furness, Morecambe and Wyre.

Taking part in activities such as beach cleans, nature walks and rock pooling, as well as having opportunities to learn new skills, participants will connect with the wonderful nature of the Bay, as well as connecting with other people. This will benefit the communities of Wyre, Morecambe and Barrow-in-Furness, while also helping to support and alleviate some of the stresses on our NHS

We want everyone to experience the amazing and dynamic, yet naturally calming environment of the Bay, feel the benefit of being in nature with like-minded people, and be inspired to take action for natures recovery.

Our hubs

We have three hub areas where our team are based, Barrow-in-Furness at the northernmost point of the Bay, Morecambe in the centre, and Wyre at the southernmost point. These hub areas mean that the team are spread throughout the large geographical area of Morecambe Bay and can support people who need it from all over.

Our Community Events

We also run wider community events aimed at anyone who wants to get out into Morecambe Bay, learn more about their local coastal environment and help to take action for nature. These events are aimed at helping to improve people’s wellbeing by connecting people to each other and to nature while taking action to protect or restore the special species and habitats in Morecambe Bay.
