Our Marine Officers

Meet our staff

We have a number of marine officers working across the North West Wildlife Trusts to help deliver our programme of Living Seas work, including a policy officer, marine community engagement officers and apprentices. Find out more about them and their roles below. 

Georgia, Head of Marine

Georgia de Jong Cleyndert

Georgia is responsible for overseeing a diverse range of marine policy, community engagement, conservation and internship projects across the Trusts, as well as leading on marine policy and advocacy, particularly around Marine Protected Areas, fisheries and stakeholder engagement. Georgia is also leading a five year project on marine policy and advocacy across the Irish Sea, funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. Before joining the North West Wildlife Trusts, Georgia worked as research assistant to Professor Callum Roberts looking at sustainable fisheries and coral friendly development in the Maldives, after studying MSc Marine Environmental Management. Before that she spent a number of years sailing around the world and diving in some incredible locations.

Amy, Fylde Sand Dunes Community Engagement Officer

Amy Pennington

Amy is the Fylde Sand Dunes Community Engagement Officer for Lancashire Wildlife Trust. She was also a former Marine Trainee for Cumbria Wildlife Trust, and so has worked for the North West Wildlife Trusts for 4 years. Her love and passion for the ocean began from a very young age and so she pursued a career in marine conservation. Amy graduated with a BSc in Marine Biology and Coastal Conservation. After this she travelled around gaining experience with many organisations including; The Sea Trust, Oban Seal Sanctuary and the Atlantic Whale Foundation. These days you can find Amy strolling along the beach, or exploring the dunes on the Fylde Coast.

Louis, My Local Catch Project Officer

Louis joined the Living Seas NW team following the Marine Futures internship, and is now working on My Local Catch, a 2.5 year project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund raising awareness about the importance of sustainable fishing for marine habitat recovery and local cultural heritage. Louis originally studied Mechanical Engineering, and has a keen interest in marine renewables and alternative technology. He is also an experienced Mountain Leader, and has spent many years working with groups of young people to explore their connection to nature and wildlife through outdoor adventure. Louis is excited to bring together their technical skills and infectious enthusiasm to get young Cumbrians excited about sustainable seafood!

Beth, Marine Conservation Officer

Beth joined the Living Seas North West team as a Marine Futures Intern. Following this she worked on a Marine Natural Capital research project with Cumbria Wildlife Trust and Solway Firth Partnership where her excitement for marine habitat restoration, blue carbon and nature-based solutions grew. Beth is now helping to plan and deliver marine surveys and survey training as well working on the Irish Sea Network project. Beth has a MBiolSci Biology degree and has spent time volunteering with marine mammal surveys, community engagement and coral reef biodiversity monitoring.
